State fire resources were mobilized on July 8 and July 4 to support containment efforts for two wildfires in eastern Washington, according to Washington State Patrol records.
The Ryegrass Coulee Fire, burning in Kittitas County near Vantage, started July 8 at 4:51 p.m. and has grown to 600 acres. It threatens homes, power infrastructure, and structures in Vantage, prompting Level 2 and Level 3 evacuations. State Fire Marshal Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization at 7:45 p.m. on July 8.
The Chelan Hills Fire, located near Orondo and Chelan Falls in Douglas County, began July 4 at 12:05 a.m. and covers 400 acres. It is burning in grass, brush, and timber. State Fire Chief John Batiste authorized resources on July 4 at 4:30 a.m. after a request from Douglas County Fire District 4.
The State Emergency Operations Center at Camp Murray is activated to Level 2 for the Ryegrass Coulee Fire. Both fires are under investigation for cause, with no immediate threat to Puyallup residents as they are located east of the city.
