SR 161 construction delays for six weeks

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

WSDOT will close one lane on both directions of State Route 161 starting Sunday, Sept. 14. The lane closures will run from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on southbound SR 161 and 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on northbound SR 161. The work will last six weeks until Oct. 16, 2026.

The project aims to improve fish passage in the Puyallup River area. Drivers should expect delays during peak travel times. WSDOT advises travelers to plan extra time for commutes through the area.

The closures are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements. The next major work on SR 161 will be the fish passage construction project. Residents should check WSDOT’s website for updates on construction schedules.
