Pierce County Blood Drive Seeks Donors at Sprinker Center

Pierce County Human Services Community Action Programs and the American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Wednesday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Sprinker Recreation Center, 521 Military Road S., Tacoma. Organizers say the region is facing a critical blood shortage and are urgently seeking donors.

To donate, participants must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good health, and feel well at the time of donation. The Red Cross will give each donor a $20 Amazon gift card. Residents can register by calling 1-800-733-2767 or by visiting RedCrossBlood.org and entering the code PierceCountyWA.

"With our region facing a critical blood shortage, there is no better way to celebrate Community Action Month than by rolling up our sleeves," said Carol Mensah, Community Action Programs manager. "Donating blood is a powerful, tangible way we can all come together to save lives right here in the South Sound."

Pierce County Community Action Programs has operated since 1970, providing energy assistance, home weatherization, and minor home repair services to area households. The blood drive is part of Community Action Month, a national recognition of local programs that work to reduce poverty and support community members.
