MCI Training to Boost Emergency Response

🔊 Listen · narrated by Aiden

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue (CPFR) crews are participating in Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) training from July through October 2026. The training aims to prepare firefighters and paramedics for large-scale emergencies, including natural disasters or accidents involving multiple casualties. The drills will focus on coordination and rapid response protocols to improve community safety during critical incidents. CPFR encourages residents to learn CPR and basic first aid, including infant choking response, after sharing a recent story of a family who used their training to save a 9-month-old child who choked on plastic. Free CPR classes are available through CPFR's website.

CPFR shared a recent story of a family who used their training to save a 9-month-old child“Training matters when seconds count.Recently, one of our members, Mitch, and his family experienced every parent’s nightmare when their 9-month-old son, Tucker, began choking on a small piece of plastic. With help from a neighbor who is a Snohomish County 911 dispatcher and former EMT, they relied on their training and acted quickly until Tucker’s airway was cleared. Even with nearly 11 years working in emergency response, Mitch described just how terrifying those moments were. Their story is an important reminder that emergencies don’t always happen when first responders are nearby and knowing what to do in those first few minutes can make all the difference. We encourage everyone in our community to learn CPR and basic first aid, including how to respond when an infant or child is choking.
