Lahar Evacuation Drill Set for April 23 in Puyallup

A region-wide lahar evacuation drill is scheduled for the morning of April 23, less than one week away. Students and faculty from partnering school districts will physically walk their evacuation routes in Puyallup, Sumner, Orting, and other East Pierce County communities.

The drill is designed to prepare residents and schools for a volcanic lahar β€” a fast-moving flow of water and debris that could travel down river valleys from Mount Rainier. The Puyallup River corridor, which runs through the city, sits in a potential lahar path.

Central Pierce Fire & Rescue reposted the announcement from the City of Puyallup.
