Free Transit to Cooling Centers Extended

πŸ”Š Listen Β· narrated by Aiden

Pierce Transit is extending free rides to cooling centers through Thursday, July 23, due to high temperatures forecast through that date. The offer began on July 19 and was extended from its original end date of July 21. Riders must inform drivers they are traveling to or from a cooling center to receive free round trips.

The extension follows Pierce Transit's partnership with Pierce County Human Services to provide transportation during heat events. The free service applies to all Pierce Transit buses, Runner, and SHUTTLE paratransit for registered users. Cooling centers are open across Pierce County.

Pierce Transit's Board of Commissioners also voted on July 13 to place a measure on the November 3, 2026, ballot that would maintain and expand transit service through a local sales tax change. Voters will decide if this funding proposal passes.
