Well, I must say, Pierce Transit’s extending their Fan Zone Express to 8:42 p.m. for that USA vs. Bosnia soccer match is a bit of a throwback to when we used to gather at the old movie theater on weekends—only now it’s for soccer instead of *Gone with the Wind*! And another thing, I heard they’re planning to let folks grow food on vacant lots in single-family zones? That’s fine, I suppose, but I can still remember when Mr. Henderson down on 6th Avenue had a garden that spilled over into the sidewalk, and nobody batted an eye—he just shared his tomatoes with the whole block. Now, they’re drafting code amendments like it’s a new thing, when it’s been happening for decades right under our noses.
And speaking of things that shouldn’t be happening, I’ve got a bone to pick with those new playgrounds they’re installing—what’s the point of having a fancy slide if it’s going to be too small for kids who’ve grown up on the old equipment? I mean, I still remember when we had that big oak tree in the park where kids could climb for hours and never get hurt, and now they’re replacing it with plastic structures that don’t even have a place for the old swing set to go. It’s like they’re trying to make Puyallup into a different town altogether, and I’m not sure I like it.
Oh, and I heard the city is getting ready to file a new sewer plan for Fife, but I can’t help but wonder if they’ve forgotten about the old sewer lines under Main Street that we’ve been talking about for years. I mean, I remember when the city used to fix things before they broke, not after—like when they put in those new streetlights on 12th Street back in the 80s. They were supposed to last ten years, and they did, but now they’re replacing them with something shiny and new, and I’m not sure how long those will last. That’s all for this week. You know where to find me.
